New iPad 3 jailbroken by the Dev Team

The hacker MuscleNerd, a member of the Dev Team, announced via its Twitter have managed to jailbreak the new iPad available since today. It is a great step forward revealing that vulnerabilities are not exploited by the team kept safe from hackers.

However, you must be patient. MuscleNerd says that this is a first step, but much work remains to be done to refine the whole. This jailbreak is complementary with that of i0n1c unveiled last night. Good news, there are two different exploits. One of them may be preserved for the future for the next software update iOS.

The tool to unseal the third generation iPad is not available. The Dev Team is certainly on track.

iOS Jailbreak Dream Team & Pod2g Credited by Apple

Apple has released a support document detailing the exploit that has been patched in iOS 5.1 software update. Per support document, kernel exploit discovered by pod2g, which was later materialized into full blown untethered iOS 5 jailbreak has been closed. Apple has credited pod2g for untethered exploit discovered in iOS 5.0.x and ‘Jailbreak Dream Team’ for coding the pod2g’s untethered kernel exploit that bypassed sandbox restrictions leading to iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak.

Pod2g iOS 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak

Can I jailbreak iPhone 4S / iPad 2 on 5.1 using Absinthe Greenpois0n Jailbreak? Well, despite our warnings to jailbreakers to keep their hands away from the update button, still we have some unlucky guys falling in this trap. As you know that Apple released 5.1 to fix some issues founded in iOS 5.0.1 and bringing new features such as Siri in Japanese, the ability to delete individual images from Photo Stream and incredibly redesigned camera access on lock screen.

iOS 5.1 new features have stimulated some iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users to hit the silly update button which caused the lose of the unique 5.0.1 Absinthe untethered jailbreak for both iPhone 4S and iPad 2 which took a long time to see the light.

Apple has closed the exploit that was used by Pod2g (the discoverer of the exploit used in 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak with Absinthe) in iOS 5.1 update for both iPhone 4S and iPad 2. What made it difficult, the impossibility of downgrading iPhone 4S / iPad 2 from 5.1 to 5.0.1 even if you have saved SHSH blobs for 5.0.1
  • If you have an iPhone4S, the basic rule above is really the only rule:  you cannot restore back to 5.0.1 once the 5.0.1 signing window is closed, no matter what (even if you saved your SHSH blobs).
  • If you have an iPad2 with saved 4.x hashes, you can in fact downgrade to that 4.x but you won’t be able to get to 5.0.1 once the 5.0.1 signing window is closed (even if you saved your 5.0.1 SHSH blobs).
So what know? Currently there is no jailbreak available for iOS 5.1 with Absinthe Greenpois0n jailbreak, as Apple has closed all the possible ways. So if you still running iOS 5.0.1 on your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 and wanna keep your jailbreak, you MUST stay away from iOS 5.1

Jailbreak 5.1 iPhone 4S / iPad 2 with Absinthe Greenpois0n – Still there is a hope :

Pod2g has just replied on of his fans on Twitter confirming that he is working actively on finding vulnerabilities on 5.1. But you have to know that digging for exploit in devices such as iPad 2 and iPhone 4S (A5-devices) is not the sort of thing that can be developed overnight. We hope that Pod2g will be a lucky guy in finding iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S / iPad 2 soon.

iOS 5.1 Tethered jailbreak by Sn0wbreeze v2.9.2

After redsn0w available from Wednesday, iH8sn0w, the hacker behind Sn0wbreeze Canada, has updated its famous jailbreak software to version 2.9.2, bringing the ability to jailbreak iOS 5.1 devices with A4 processor ( iPhone 4, iPad) or earlier. Obviously, this is again a tethered jailbreak, attention before the plunge.

A new version brings:
  • Tethered jailbreak for iPhone owners 3GS/iPod 3/iPhone 4 or iPad Touch iOS 5.1
  • Untethered jailbreak for iPhone owners with an old bootrom 3GS iOS 5.1
  • Solving different bugs (especially with the iPhone 2G baseband and the iPad)
  • BootNeuter addition of the permanent unlocked iPhone 2G.

Jailbreak Download for iOS 5.1

The Dev Team now is offering a jailbreak for iOS 5.1 for all devices except those with an A5 processor (4S iPhone and iPad 2).

The team of hackers insist on some good points, including that it is a Tethered Jailbreak. Therefore, a computer will be required if you restart the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Owners of iPhone 3G with an old bootrom will love on their side, because the untethered jailbreak is for them. Another point for those wishing to unlock their phone, be aware that an update of ultrasn0w will be available within the next few days. However, no new baseband will be supported, it will be just a compatibility with IOS 5.1.

Ultimate point, iBooks does not work if the jailbreak is done, as announced in Dev Team. A future software update will solve this problem.

Download : 0.9.10b6 redsn0w is available on Mac [Link] and Windows [Link].

Transparent notification center by NCControl

Here's a little tweak that relates to the appearance of your notification center. NCControl will  transparent the background of your notification center.

Although this is not particularly convenient to read and view its notifications, the bottom of the notification center becomes fully transparent with NCControl. Available free on Cydia, NCControl easily replaces a theme winterboard aillant the same function. If you have a Winterboard theme amending notification center, the NCControl will still transparent.

There is no new icon on your springboard added or settings to set NCControl.

Compatibility : iOS 5 +

Zephyr 1.1.2 even faster multitasking

Chpwn has again updated its latest tweak Zephyr to add a nice feature. Just to reiterate, Zephyr allows (among others) the user to activate the drawer of multitasking on iPhone and iPod touch using a vertical gesture. The idea is especially convenient for those having a faulty Home button or capricious.

Thus, this version 1.1.2 adds a new option in the settings. We are now asked to change the time to onset of the famous drawer. So far, the weather was set to default. The user can choose a palette ranging from 0.2 seconds to 1.5 seconds or never show it.

Zephyr is available on Cydia under BigBoss source at a price of $ 3. The update is free if purchased legally

iOSOpenDev for Cydia Tweaks Development

An app aimed at lowering the learning curve for iOS developers looking to create jailbreak tweaks. The utility allows users to develop tweaks using Apple’s own Xcode software.

As promised, iOSOpenDev is now available for download. So if you have a little bit of a background in programming, and you’re looking for a way to get into jailbreak development, you might want to check it out…
Developing Cydia tweaks doesn’t get much easier than this. iOSOpenDev includes pre-made templates for Activator listeners, SB Settings toggles, and Notification Center widgets. It will even build the project into a .deb file, so it will be ready to submit to the repository of your choice.
All you need to use the application is a Mac computer, running at least Mac OS X 10.6 or later and Xcode 4 or higher. The developer warns that iOSOpenDev is still in beta, but he believes that it’s ready for public use.
If you’re interested in the application, you can download iOSOpenDev here.

How to fix white icons after jailbreak

Ever since I jailbroke my iPhone 4S using Absinthe, it has been behaving a little weird, sometimes displaying white icons or even transparent icons for certain applications. It seems that this issue only affects Apple’s stock applications such as the Phone app, Calendar, etc.
I can’t really pinpoint the issue. Is it because of Absinthe? Or is it because of a package I have installed from Cydia? While I’m not really sure what causes this problem, I have found a simple trick to fix the blank or missing icon dilemma…
To fix this problem, simply download iWipe Cache from Cydia, and run the app. According to the app description, iWipe Cache allows you to:
Clear your SpringBoard Cache to ensure all images from any theme will work with WinterBoard. Due to Winterboard being very out of date, It does not clear springboard cache. This app will clear your cache, allowing new masks and overlays to be applied to Icons.

As you can see, iWipe Cache was apparently developed to fix WinterBoard problems, but since it I don’t have WinterBoard installed on my iPhone 4S, I know for sure my blank icons issues aren’t due to this app.
Additionally, it seems that doing a respring temporarily fixes the problem. Respringing hasn’t proven very effective in my case, which is why I recommend the iWipe Cache option, over a simple respring.
If you’ve seen white or missing icons on your iPhone or iPad, try this fix and let us know how it works for you.

Siri for iPhone 4 and iPad 2

Since Apple released Siri the personal assistant for iPhone 4S on April 2010 it became a hot topic for users who have older iDevices than the iPhone 4S. Also it caught the most attention of iOS developers especially after the release of iOS 5 jailbreak for both A4 and A5 iDevices chips. They didn't just make it possible to have Siri on iPhones and iPods only but even for the iPad assuming it has a large screen that Siri is not prepared to work on. I have been following the project of iPad's Siri on Cydia and I can tell that Siri is fully ready to work perfectly on it through ( Spire For iPad ) Tool on iHacksrepo.com Cydia source as it also has the Spire for both iPhone and iPod too.

After the release of Spire by Chpwn, more tweaks on Cydia supported the Siri Spire Project like ( SiriToggles ) which allows Siri to enable/disable certain settings, get info on battery level, change your screen brightness and even launch applications. On the other side we have ( Hands-Free Control ) which provide continuous listening service  to activate Siri by just calling her : Siri! Those are the most important available Cydia Tools to have beside Spire.

Unfortunately, Spire requires a proxy server to work. The proxy server is powered by iPhone 4S since the servers of Apple don't allow any other devices rather than 4S iPhones to connect. But don't worry because I think with having iPhone 4S jailbroken we could improve Spire to work freely and connect to Apple servers directly.

Finally, have a nice time playing Siri folks.
