How much Google pays Apple to be default in Safari

While users can choose between Google, Yahoo and MSN as a search engine to use in Safari on iOS, few people change the default setting!

As you can well imagine, this has a cost advantage for Google! But do you really know how much Google pays Apple to integrate its Search Engine on iOS?

Well according to the analyst Ben Schachter, Google paid to Apple last year the tidy sum of $1 billion! Maybe you already knew but it's also the same for the Mozilla Firefox browser which is almost entirely funded by Google! Internet users are using Firefox searches on Google and click on AdSense ads. Revenues that Google draws are then shared with Mozilla, which allows them to have the financial means to improve web standards and software that they publish (including Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird), prompting other publishers Web browser to do the same.

Otherwise, there is Google Search application :

Google Search - App Store link.
For iPhone or iPad that allows you to search the Web and benefit from search features exclusive as voice dictation.

Google monitors iPhone users

Few are aware, but Safari Mobile for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad has the particularity to block cookies associated with advertisements. Obviously, the peculiarity of the mobile browser for Apple is not appreciated by Google, which intends to place its billboards here and there ... Never mind, the Mountain View company has so far found a way well unflattering in terms of respect for privacy.

This is the Wall Street Journal broke the story yesterday, putting Google in a very bad position. Indeed, it appears that the company has diverted the privacy settings of Safari. By default, Apple's browser accepts cookies except cookies agency advertising found on third party sites and allow the user to track him for taunting commercials related to recently viewed pages. Nevertheless, this famous cookie may be set back if and only if, once the user clicks on one of these ads. So, Google as three other advertising agencies have found a solution: simulate click this to install the cookie!

Obviously, Google denies having deliberately programmed the thing and told anyone who would believe that this phenomenon is actually an error! Even funnier is the first that Google, not later than Tuesday night, still gave advice privacy for users of Safari do not track on the net. Google explains how to avoid the follow-up by Google and advertising agencies during a browsing session so Safari Super Hero / Super Villain. Advice from hastily removed!

Nothing surprises us, but is that really a reason not to be surprised?
