Purpose:         To certify Practitioners in Professional Crisis Management

                        To provide Practitioners with the skills that are necessary to effectively

                        Implement the Professional Crisis Management procedures and techniques.

Requirements:

1.      Submit a completed application.

2.      Pass written and practical examinations

3.      Complete performance checklists

4.      Be physically fit (be capable of standing from a kneeling position, with both knees down, five (5) times in one minute)

Cost: 250.00 Euro per participant

**Since you will be practicing physical assistance procedures and techniques, dress comfortably (i.e., casual slacks, jeans, casual shirts with long sleeves, sneakers, flat shoes, no hats, etc.)

IAA panel for National Outreach Programme

Irish Autism Action endeavors to raise the quality of life of individuals and their families affected by autism through ensuring the highest standards in education, care, support, employment and equality of living opportunities in partnership with families.

As part of our National Outreach Programme, Irish Autism Action are seeking to establish a panel of suitably qualified individuals interested in providing direct intervention and support to schools and/or families of persons affected by autism. 

Successful candidates will have:

·    A recognised qualification in education,  autism or in an evidence based approach to teaching children with autism. Applicants holding third level qualifications from related disciplines (e.g. psychology, social science) will also be considered.
·    Previous experience working with children and/or adolescents with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
·    Experience with augmenative communication methods (PECs, LAMH, etc).
·    Experience managing challenging behaviour is desirable but not essential.
·    Excellent verbal and written communication skills together with the ability to coach and motivate on a one-to-one basis.
·    References and Garda Clearance required.

Ongoing training and supervision will be provided. Flexible work hours essential.

Pathways To Possibilities - LEAP training course

PATHWAYS TO POSSIBILITIES

This exciting 6-day course is for the parents of sons or daughters with an intellectual disability or autism. The course will help parents plan a positive future for their son or daughter, by enabling greater participation in the planning of that future. It will be particularly important as public policy moves towards greater involvement of families in funding arrangements.

Each parent should pick an ally/professional to work with them on the course.

Over the duration of the course, (among other things) parents will experience what it is like to:

=    Map their own and their son’s or daughter’s strengths, gifts, capacities and interests
=    Participate in deciding what works and doesn’t work for their son or daughter
=    Have a range of tools to develop and sustain self care
=    Build five valued experiences for themselves and their son or daughter: friendships and relationships,    sharing ordinary places, making choices, being respected and having valued social roles and contributing
=    Write a plan and build networks of support
=    Make the journey towards a desirable future for their son or daughter and for themselves

Content of Workshops will include:

Small groups will work together in a highly collaborative environment. Each participating family member will identify an ally or professional who will attend the course with them, and who will work with them between sessions to help translate the goals set during the sessions into action. Participants will all be supplied with a manual and other course material. The course will focus on outcomes – getting the results we want for ourselves and our children.

The workshops run from 10am to 3pm over six days.

The facilitator is Julie Simpson, Executive Director, Pathways to Leadership, Australia

Julie Simpson is the parent of a 42 year old woman who requires substantial assistance to live within her community. Julie and her daughter Kara are successfully managing a self directed funding package. You can read her background and success at www.pathwaystoleadership.com.au.


There will be two courses. The venue has yet to be decided but will be in Dublin City centre.

The dates are set out below, and are designed to enable a break for practical work during the course.

There is a 30 euro charge.
