Going The Extra 70.3 Miles For Autism

Going The Extra 70.3 Miles For Autism

Keith Duffy To Be Joined By Grainne Seoige, Ray D’Arcy And Kathryn Thomas For The Gruelling Run, Swim and Cycle

A hundred competitors will make up Team Keith Duffy at the Iron Man 70.3 Galway on Sunday (September 4th) all hoping to raise vital funds for Irish Autism Action (IAA). The Iron Man covers a total distance of 70.3 miles split between running, cycling and swimming.

“Having a hundred people helping me out on Team Duffy is incredible,” said Keith, Patron IAA. “Who’d have guessed there were that many people willing to take on this challenge, let alone to do it for children with autism. And I have to say a big thank you to Paul Byrne who’ll be right alongside me and to all the people on the relay teams.”

Competitors for Team Duffy will come from all over the world including Scotland, England, Bermuda, Netherlands, Sweden, Indonesia and Texas, Florida and Georgia in the USA. Also competing will be a series of relay teams that will split the swimming, running and cycling between their members. They will include Grainne Seoige, Kathryn Thomas, and  Ray D’arcy.

“We know this is a big event, but we really would love to see the people of Galway out cheering us on. Not all of us are great athletes, and we could do with every bit of support,” explained Duffy. “And we’ve already had great support from Marks & Spencer who’ve promised Team Duffy t-shirts for every one of us that makes the finish line. McCabe’s Pharmacies have given us all goody bags and Richie’s Bike Shop in Swords has sponsored my wheels for the day. ”

Starting with a 1.9-km swim on Sunday morning in Galway Bay, followed by a 90 kilometre bike ride and completed with a 21.1 kilometre run the event is expected to last around 6 hours.
