A Basic Introduction to Behaviour Management, workshop





The Saplings School, Carlow, will be conducting a 1-day course on "A Basic Introduction to Behaviour Management". The course will take place on Saturday, April 28th, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, and has a fee of 60 euro. 


The 1-day course will be a very basic introduction to behaviour management, going through topics such as Applied Behaviour Analysis, Reinforcement, Functional Communication Training, Schedules of Reinforcement, Token Economies, Visual Schedules, etc., to name a few. The focus of the day will be specifically an introduction to Antecedent changes, to prevent challenging behaviours from occurring. Further 1-day courses that may be done may hone in on 1 or 2 topics specifically with more depth and cover other things such as dealing directly with challenging behaviours and certain consequence manipulations.

Autism In The Mainstream Classroom

A one day course entitled "Autism & The Mainstream Classroom" will take place in The Maryborough Hotel & Spa on Friday the 11th of May.
The course is aimed primarily at those involved with children with a diagnosis of ASD in mainstream classrooms, and will cover a range of topics including:
  • What is Autism?
  • Autism & Asperger Syndrome- what's the difference?
  • Sensory Issues in the Classroom
  • Classroom Guidelines and tactics
  • Bullying- Why are our kids more susceptable to bullying? What can we do to help?
  • Anxiety- Identifying causes and stragies for self management
  • Social skills- Identifying, teaching and generalising skills
The course will commence at 9am and finish at 5pm with lunch included on the day.

Autism & The Mainstream Classroom will be presented by Laura Crowley, Director of Educational Support Services in the Shine Centre.

Whether it takes the form of aggression, tantrums, self-injury or property destruction, challenging behaviour can be extremely distressing.  As a teacher or SNA you will want to know how you can understand and help. This one day course, facilitated by specialists in the field of autism and behaviour analysis includes a combination of training and workshop-based activities, as well as the chance to share experiences.
– Be more confident in understanding why challenging behaviours occur
– Be able to make a basic plan of action
– Know how to check whether your plan is working or not
– Have a range of practical tools to help you deal with challenging behaviour in your   classroom

Autism Spectrum Disorder: from Diagnosis to Educational Provision Conference, NUIG


The Centre for Autism and Developmental Disorders at the National University of Ireland is delighted to announce its first international autism conference. 

The conference will include presentations from national and international experts in the fields of health and education.  

Over two days there will be plenary presentations and workshops on the latest evidence-based approaches to diagnosis, clinical management, education and adult service provision. 

Early registration is €60 for parents and students and €120 for professionals before November 1st
