About the Workshop:

Dr Linda Copeland presents a workshop where she will evaluate the empirical support for many medical and complementary-alternative medical (CAM) interventions commonly used with children with autism. She will discuss the National Standards Project, completed in 2009 by the National Autism Centre in the US, along with the Stanford ASD Research Project: Evidence Base for Pharmacologic and CAM Treatments. Dr Copeland will participate in a question and answer session following her presentation.

About the Presenter:

Dr Linda Copeland graduated with honours from the University of California Davis School of Medicine in 1979, did residency training in both Paediatrics and Child Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and also did a fellowship there in Developmental Disabilities. She worked for 6 years at Alta California Regional Centre for persons with developmental disabilities. She then returned to paediatric practice, joining the Kaiser Rancho Cordova Autism Spectrum Disorders Centre in 1996.  After 5 years, she switched to the subspecialty of Developmental Paediatrics.  She is board certified in Paediatrics and Developmental/ Behavioural Paediatrics.  She has studied Behaviour Analysis for over 18 years, and more recently took formal graduate level training in Behaviour Analysis at California State University Sacramento, along with an 18 month mentorship under Dr. Joe Morrow Ph.D. and field training at The Kendall School, a preschool for autistic children directed by Dr. Jill Young, Ph.D.  She is one of only a handful of physicians in the United States who is also a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA). She served on the Community Advisory Council for C.H.A.R.G.E. (Childhood Autism Risks from Genes and the Environment) from its inception and she also co-authored an NIH research grant on metabolic-environmental issues in autism with Dr. Irva Hertz-Picciotto of the MIND Institute.
