illegal use of the name iPad in China

Apple lost a court battle last year against a court Proview Shenzhen (south), have not made according to the court sufficient evidence of fraudulent use of the trademark iPad by Chinese society.

With this defeat of the Apple brand, Proview goes on the offensive today.

"We demand an end to this violation of trademark law," said his lawyer, Mr. Xie Xianghui, told AFP.

Contacted, Apple did not respond immediately.

Proview Technology, a Taiwanese-owned company that produces flat panel displays, made a failed attempt to sell a tablet computer in 2000 and had registered the name "IPAD" in China and in several other countries.

Apple had subsequently acquired the rights for the brand worldwide, but Proview Technology (Shenzhen) has kept those for China, according to the New China News Agency.

The Chinese company had asked for 10 billion yuan (1.58 billion dollars) in compensation for the use of Apple iPad name in China, where the tablet is officially sold since September 2010.

Proview has filed a complaint with the Administration for Trade and Industry in Beijing and two other Chinese cities, which could lead to fines for Apple, according to Mr. Xie.

The company also filed a lawsuit against Apple in Shanghai and is also pursuing two brands of consumer electronics to force them to stop selling the iPad, the lawyer added.

Apple's products snapped up in China, where the launch of the latest generation iPhone last month had to be postponed in a Beijing store because of clashes.

All China - Taiwan - Hong Kong market is Apple's fastest growing, and the second by sales volume after the United States.
