Death of Flash for mobile devices

Adobe officially announces the abandonment of the development of its Flash Player to all mobile platforms, 9 November 2011, in a message posted on his official blog: "Flash to Focus on PC and Mobile Browsing Apps, Adobe Contribute to More aggressively to HTML5.

    Admission of failure and pragmatism

Although predictable, this new one sounds like real acknowledgment of failure for the giant San Jose, which has not been able to impose its Flash technology in mobile browsers, after two years of development.

Adobe admits that he lost his crusade against the HTML5, not to mention its dispute with Apple and specifically with its former CEO, Steve Jobs, who openly criticized the outdated, the deplorable safety record and the energy-side of Flash technology. Indeed, Danny Winokur, vice president and CEO of Adobe, said that "HTML5 is the best solution to create and deploy content in a browser on all mobile platforms."

Pragmatic, Adobe can only note that "HTML5 is now universally supported by the majority of mobile devices and in some cases exclusively," not to mention iOS devices from Apple, iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

    HTML5 and Adobe Air

As a result, Adobe has now undertaken to intensify its participation in the development of HTML5 for mobile browsers, along with key community stakeholders, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, of course.

Nevertheless, the California company did not abandon the Adobe product development for mobile devices. Not surprisingly, she will focus on the development of native mobile applications, using Adobe AIR, to the main App Store market.

Flash Player Mobile 11.1 and updates security

Prior to completely stop the development of Flash Player Mobile, Adobe will distribute a final version numbered 11.1 for Android and RIM BlackBerry playbook, especially in bad shape. Of course, Adobe will continue to ensure, for some time, maintenance of Flash Player Mobile 11.1 by issuing necessary patches and updates critical security.
