Applications Validation process of App Store

Business Week interviewed a former head of Apple about the practices of the firm on the App Store. He explained that the company took an average 15 minutes to control and possibly approve each proposed application on the App Store. This observation comes as the App Store is experiencing a series of controversies.

With the debut of the App Store in 2008, Apple has revolutionized the way businesses interact with customers and third party developers. Steve Jobs promised the lack of malware with the establishment of a sharp control applications prior to their arrival on the App Store. However, the download platform Apple has suffered in recent times, some problems with the appearance of applications for at least questionable practices: applications proving to be paid copies of free programs, rankings distorted by illegitimate downloads from fake accounts or Path that had created controversy when an engineer discovered that the application recorded the list of all contacts on company servers.

Attention : Apple firm, recognized as uncompromising in the security of personal data and often criticized for its validation system drastically, it would tend toward an astonishing laxity?

15 minutes to validate an application

To answer this question, the site Business Week interviewed, requested anonymity, a former executive of Apple who makes no secret that thousands of applications are received each month and that the validation process takes on average 15 minutes per application. Applications are being rejected a second study by a committee for this purpose.

So these 15 minutes suffice to ensure the integrity and security of an application? Michael Gartenberg, an analyst with technology (IT), said: "You always have a human factor, and people will always find a way to do things that someone else has not taken into account or to thwart the system in their favor. "

A ranking of applications to review

Apple also introduced last February, a new policy prohibiting developers who use the services promised a reward in exchange for downloading an application from the App Store. A measure for the least efficient has reduced the number of downloads in the U.S. by 24% from January to February. At the same time, Apple was using the firm Chomp to see his way to classify the applications and determine their popularity. Traditionally, the application is rewarded by the volume of downloads. By including several factors, such as the frequency of a downloaded application, the leader board could more accurately reflect the popularity, said Craig Palli, vice president Fiksu.

Although the system is not perfect, the App Store today with untouchable figure of over 600 000 applications, but obviously this status is not acquired without making sacrifices in the application control still many more.
